The Spinning Magnet

Spinning the magnet inside the wire coil creates an electrical current. Red and green lights flash alternately, each indicating a different direction of current flow. In the same way, changing magnetic fields around the Earth due to Space Weather generate massive electrical currents.

The Space Weather Center is part of the National Space Weather Program, with funding provided by NASA and the National Science Foundation.
