The sun in extreme ultraviolet, taken by the Extreme ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (EIT) onboard the SOHO spacecraft. Extereme ultraviolet light is produced high in the sun's chromosphere and in the lower regions of the corona. These EIT images therefore give us pictures of the activity in that part of the sun's atmosphere. Courtesy of SOHO/EIT consortium. SOHO is a project of international cooperation between ESA and NASA.
